ACADEMY

Ages 7 to 18

About the Academy

When dancers reach the age of 7, we offer two distinct yet interconnected programs: the Pre-Academy and the Academy, each tailored to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of our students. At our studio, the Pre-Academy and Academy work in harmony to provide a comprehensive and progressive ballet education. Whether you're just starting or a dancer with extensive experience, our programs are designed to support and nurture your passion for ballet, ensuring a fulfilling and enriching dance experience at every level.

Our Academy offers a progression of classes that challenge and inspire as dancers grow in skill and artistry. Classes are structured to provide a comprehensive education in ballet, encompassing both technical proficiency and artistic expression, within a positive, encouraging environment.

Academy ballet classes often require prerequisites or placement, in order to ensure that each dancer is appropriately challenged and placed in classes that align with both their skill level and age. As dancers advance through the academy levels, they encounter a curriculum that increases technical mastery and artistic depth. Each class builds upon the skills acquired in previous levels, creating a dynamic and cohesive learning journey tailored to the individual growth of each student.

Classes Offered

A dedicated pointe technique class tailored for dancers working in pointe shoes. Instruction emphasizes the enhancement of strength, technique, and artistry specific to dancing en pointe. Dancers learn to apply previously learned techniques and exercises while in pointe shoes, engaging in barre exercises, center work, and across the floor combinations. Exercises are adjusted for the level of pointe work appropriate for participating dancers.

Pointe Prep II is a class specifically for students who aspire to advance to dancing en pointe. This is a strengthening class that focuses on pointe technique, strengthening the feet and ankles, maintaining proper alignment and turnout, and improving balance. In this class, dancers will gain the knowledge and strength necessary for future pointe work.

Folk dance

Character dance is a versatile and expressive form of dance training that adds diversity to a dancer’s skillset. With roots in traditional and folk dance, character dance brings ballets to life, adding a sense of place and personality. This fun and integral subsection of classical ballet allows dancers to deepen their understanding of story ballets, performance, rhythm, and musicality, while enhancing their technique and strength. In this class, dancers will further learn to convey a story or theme through dance, while gaining a deeper understanding of rhythm and movement.

Placement Information

When dancers reach the age of 7, we offer two distinct yet interconnected programs: the Pre-Academy and the Academy, each tailored to meet the diverse needs and aspirations of our students.

All Pre-Academy classes are open enrollment, meaning they do not require any prerequisites outside of age requirements. Most Academy classes are by placement only, meaning prerequisites or a placement class are required to enroll.

NEW DANCERS: Placement classes are for dancers with some previous experience between the ages of 7 and 18, and either new to our studio or returning after a break. This is not an audition, rather a means to determine what a dancer will benefit from and where they will grow the most. Placement classes are the best way to know which of our levels are most appropriate for your dancer.

RETURNING DANCERS: All currently enrolled dancers are emailed placement recommendations for the new session, without having to do anything further- please register according to our placement recommendation for your dancer.

Placement classes are optional, yet beneficial. Without a placement class, you are still welcome to enroll in any open enrollment class!
