camps vs. intensives
The main difference between a camp and an intensive is just how much dancing we do versus other activities! While both camps and intensives involve dancing and themed activities to the ballet for the week, intensives are for dancers as they get older, prepared to take their dance education more seriously.
Intensive dancers** participate in multiple dance classes daily, including ballet technique, pointe prep/pointe, variations, and contemporary ballet. Their dance history portions involve more in-depth discussion and activities as dancers begin connecting the art we do and how it came to be. As we prepare for our end-of-week performance, dancers become more involved in the performance process and behind-the-scenes. Intensive participants, being a little older, also have the opportunity to participate in pool days at Bethesda Pool.

Camp dancers also participate in full ballet classes and learn modified variations for their end-of-week performance, but our day also consists of more games and non-dancing activities. Games we play help dancers activate their imaginations and learn dance movements in innovative ways. Dancers enjoy age-appropriate art projects to decorate our performance classroom, and watch a portion of professional ballerinas performing to the dances they are learning. Rest/quiet time is built into the schedule for our youngest dancers to let their growing muscles relax from all the activity. On nice days, Demi Soloist campers have the the opportunity to enjoy time at nearby Norwood Park, given enough chaperones.
Both opportunities are a ton of fun and opportunities to dance with old friends and make new ones within our welcoming dancing community!
**No auditions necessary! We accept dancers of all levels and backgrounds. Each intensive has multiple levels of class. Our first day of the intensive week we will do placement classes to make sure dancers take classes at the appropriate level for them.
APPRENTICE CAMP
Ages 2-3
10:00- 12:00 pm
Our youngest ballerinas will enjoy dancing to the well-known classics in ballet! Each week has a different classical ballet theme, from Cinderella to Coppélia. Dancers are at the studio each day for 2 hours- the perfect amount of time for our little ones to get immersed in dancing to their theme, have a full ballet class, eat snack, create art, and make it home in time for lunch! All activities are age-appropriate and centered around the theme for the week. The week end with an informal in-class performance to share with grown-ups.

All Apprentice camps are ballet only.

SOLOIST INTENSIVE
Ages 7-11
9:00- 3:00 pm
In our Soloists intensive, we will have plenty of time to completely immerse ourselves into the ballet of the week. Dancers will take full technique , variations, and strength classes, while rehearsing for an informal in-class production at the end of the week. We will have the opportunity to delve deeper into ballet and our theme of the week through dance history classes, and learn about what goes into performance behind the scenes by creating our performance "set" and more. We supplement all our dancing with various workshops to learn even more, including nutrition, hair, and stage makeup workshops! When weather allows, Soloists have the opportunity to participate in pool days at Bethesda Pool, and park days at Norwood Park. The week ends with an informal in-class performance to share with friends and family of our dancers.

All Intensives are ballet-focused, supplemented with contemporary and character dance to ensure well-rounded ballet education.

PRINCIPAL INTENSIVE
Ages 12-18
9:00- 3:00 pm
Principal dancers are the highest ranking dancers of a ballet company. Our Principal intensives are the highest level of intensives we currently offer. Dancers will have the opportunity to learn variations that are more advanced and essential to the ballet world! Our principal intensives artists will take full technique classes, variations, strength classes, dance history, and rehearse for an informal, in-class production at the end of the week, while still being able to enjoy the fun activities of a ballet camp. This includes themed art projects to help create our set for performance, team-building games, lunch, and the opportunity to enjoy activities outside when the weather allows. Dancers will bring lunch from home that we will eat together mid-day. The week ends with an informal in-class performance to share with friends and family of our dancers.
